Abstract
During the past 6¨ö years we have performed 16 renal allotransplant operation and an interim report of our results has been published. Limited as the experience at the Catholic Medical College is as compared to some center abroad, we present postoperative complications encoun-tered with the 16 cases.
The sex and the age of donors and recipients and their relations are as listed in Table 1: Fifteen of the 16 recipients were male. All received kidneys from living donors; 13 from the related donors, three from-the unrelated. The cause of renal failure was chronic glomerulonephritis in 15 cases and chronic pyelonephritis in one case. ABCO and Rh blood types of the donor and recipient were identical to each other in 14 cases and nonidentical in two cases. Histoco-mpatibility was tested according to Bach and Hirschhorn¢¥s mixed lymphocyte culture method.
Renal transplantation along with bilateral nephrectomy was performed in 8 cases, transpl-antation along with unilateral nephrectomy in 6 cases and transplantation alone in 2 cases. Cold ischemic times of graft kidney was 30 minutes and 18 seconds, on the average. In case 9 and 10, the ischemic time was prolonged because of double arteries of the donor kidneys.
Herein we will review our complications of renal allotransplantation and discuss their diagn-osis and management in the past and future.
